What is a window blind?
A window blind is a type of window covering that is made up of long slats, either vertical or horizontal, connected together by cords. The slats can be made from different materials such as fabric, wood, plastic or metal. It can be used to block out light from the outside by adjusting its slats to close and open with just a rotation. What are the types of window blinds?
There are too many types of window blinds. In this post, about 4 types of window blinds are discussed:- Persian Blinds – These are the most common blinds or shades. The slats of these blinds have the ability to close tightly up to 170 degrees thus completely shutting off outside light from getting inside the room. Additionally, the slats of Persian blinds can be pulled up to the top of the window to allow light to pass through.
- Venetian Blinds – Venetian blinds are known for its horizontal slats arranged one above the other. These slats can be rotated simultaneously up to 180 degrees to block off light from getting inside the room. On the contrary, the lowest slat can be pressed to the next highest slat when the cords are pulled to allow light to pass through.
- Vertical blinds – These are blinds with vertical slats, as its name goes.
- Roman shades or blinds – Unlike the other blinds above that cover the window by having the slats overlap, the Roman shades fully block out sunlight smoothly without any overlapping.
Now that you have a background about what window blinds are, let me tell you about the importance of getting custom window blinds.
Custom Window Blinds: Tile Cutouts
While it is common for houses to have standardized windows with frames of the same width and height, it is not always the case in every house. We have had customers asking us about custom window blinds that would fit perfectly their odd shaped windows. Luckily, we provide window blinds and shades that are custom made to meet each of our customer’s specifications. For example, we can custom cut most of our window blinds and shades to varying widths for clearance around objects. We refer this specialized customization of our blinds to a "tile cutout".What is a tile cutout?
A tile cutout is a procedure done to make some of the blind’s slats shorter than the rest thus making the window covering fit the exact shape of the window opening. The diagram below shows you what a tile cutout looks like.As you can see from the diagram to the right, the configuration of the window is not a standard. There are architectural obstructions that would prevent a standard window blind from covering perfectly the windows. In such cases, window blinds must then have tile cutouts to ensure that the obstructions will be accommodated and would not hinder the window blinds from perfectly fitting the window sill.
Here is a realistic view of the diagram above.
In this picture, the window’s height is not the same on both sides as the right side is obstructed by an architectural design. The window blind then underwent a tile cut out so that it would not cover the architectural design while perfectly covering the window at the same time.
Tile cutout customizations just like the one above require customers to give detailed information on the height and thickness of the tiles on each side. Fortunately, Blinds Chalet gives you comprehensive instruction on how to correctly measure your window’s configurations.
So whether you have a chair rail trim, tile, door knob, or any object that would interfere with the window blinds, Blinds Chalet can make tile cutouts to the window blinds to provide the clearance around these items.
